President's Report 2019

2019 another successful season at Western Districts Netball Association for the Club. The Club’s success is due to our volunteers. Our committee members and their families are the backbone of our Club and I cannot thank them enough for their efforts in 2019. Organising registrations and payments, coaches, umpires, fundraising events, merchandise, our social media pages, our presentation day and evenings, organising volunteers, development programs, attending meetings and dealing with enquiries are just some of the tasks our committee complete throughout the season.

I’d also like to thank our coaches and umpires who put their hand up to support our players and of course our families, friends and players who participated in the 2019 season. Players This year St Joseph’s fielded 22 teams – three more teams than in 2018. For the first time in many years we fielded a Senior Team in Senior Division 4. This team was made up of mums of daughters from our club with a few players who wanted to play the game for enjoyment. Of course, they were a very competitive team and came Runners Up in their division. Joeys fielded 15 competitive teams - 13 teams through to semi or preliminary finals and 9 teams through to the grand final. Four teams came away with the premiership: • 12 Div 5 • 13 Div 2 • 16-18 Div 1 • A1 Our players have been successful at the representative level with players being selected in Western Districts teams, Schoolgirls – primary and high school - Met West and Met East, Qld Premier League for the Region, Sapphires Series, Sapphires and Ruby Series - Jets and Sunshine Coast Storm and Northern Territory Storm. Coaches The Club has had several new coaches join the ranks this year. Brian Nolan, Sarah Donald, Abi White, Jess Finney, Anita Williamson. We had coaches who completed further professional development achieving a higher coaching accreditation which assists in the development of our up and coming coaches. Many club coaches also coach representative teams at the Association level, School Representative Level, the Region, the Sapphire Series and Queensland Fusion. We also have club members who are managers for these representative teams– Northern Territory Storm, Ruby Series – Jets, QPL.   Umpires The Club has some very talented umpires. Our Club umpires have umpired for QPL, Sapphires and Ruby Series, Qld State Age, Qld and Australian School Girls and been recognised by attaining their national badges. Summary When we reflect upon the season we should be proud of what has been achieved. Our team numbers have grown, we have run a development program post-season and applied for a grant for next season. I often hear our Club described as “a family club”, “a club that cares for its members”. If we can continue with these values I am certain St Joseph’s will be around for a long time. See you in 2020 for another year of our favourite sport netball! President's Report 2018

978 – 2018 – 40 years of netball St Joseph’s Netball Club celebrated 40 years of netball in 2018 and this was a great opportunity to reflect on all the wonderful people who have been associated with the Club and made the Club the success that it is today. We cannot thank enough Bob and Di Jeanes for the countless hours and years of dedication and commitment they put into the Club in the early years. Our Club commenced as two junior teams wearing St Joseph’s Primary School sports uniforms and has evolved to be the Club we are today. Over the last 40 years there has been many core members and the St Joseph’s netball community cannot thank them enough for their time. There have been many successes, wonderful friendships made and some really enjoyable times to reminisce about. We have had some very talented players, coaches and umpires wear the Joeys colours or proudly say they have been a part of this Club. This year St Joseph’s fielded 19 teams in 2018 from Net Set Go through to A Grade. We had 5 non-competitive teams and in the competitive space we had 7 teams make finals, with 5 teams making it through to the grand final. Three teams came away with premierships – A Grade, 14/15 Division 1 and 14/15 Division 2. Coaching In 2018 all coaches were accredited to the Foundation Level and next year we will be supporting our coaches to achieve their Development Coaching accreditation. Tracey Jeanes-Fraser was awarded her High-Performance Coaching Accreditation and Bob Jeanes and Megan Walker are currently completing their Advanced Coaching Accreditation. Umpiring We had four players achieve their St Joseph’s Green Umpiring Award and two players achieve their St Joseph’s Gold Umpiring Award. National C Badges were awarded to – Holly Atherton, Sam Atherton, Narelle Zillmann, Grace Franklin, Amy Reithmuller, Taylah Nottingham. National B Badge was awarded to Katie Atherton. Players In terms of players achieving success in 2018 we congratulate Steph O’Brien who was selected as a Sunshine Coast Lightning Training Partner and Mia Henderson who was selected in the Northern Territory Storm team. We also congratulate Tracey Jeanes-Fraser on her appointment as the coach of the Queensland Fusion Team. In 2018 we had many players selected in Western Districts State Age teams and furthermore many girls represent their district or region. We had players selected in the region’s Tier 1, Tier 2 and 19U teams and also in the QPL teams. Volunteers Once again I’d like to thank our Committee for the time and effort they put into the running of our Club. It is not an easy task however they continually give back to our players and families. I’d also like to thank our coaches, umpires, families, friends and players who participated in the 2018 season and look forward to another successful season in 2019. Narelle Zillmann President

President's Report 2017

St Joseph’s Netball Club’s 2017 season has been successful. These successes are on and off the court and cannot be realised without the time and effort of our committee, life members, coaches, umpires, managers, families, friends and players. I would particularly like to thank our former President, Bob Jeanes who I have often sought advice from in my first year as President. We fielded 20 teams – 14 competitive and 6 non-competitive competitive teams. We also had 11 net set go girls experience netball for the first time. Most competitive teams reached finals and we came away with four premierships. Joeys were able to back up their last year’s A Grade premiership with another win in for A Grade in 2017. In terms of players achieving success in 2017 we congratulate Steph O’Brien, Mia Henderson and former Joeys player Annabella Sorby who were selected for the Queensland Fusion Team. We also congratulate Tracey Jeanes-Fraser on her appointment as the coach of the Queensland Fusion Team. Congratulations also to Josie Bingham and Lisa Dreyer (19U Qld Schoolgirls Team) and to Chloe Bingham (15U Qld Schools Girls Team – shadow). In 2017 we had many players selected in Western Districts State Age teams and furthermore many girls represent their district or region. We had players selected in the region’s Tier 1, Tier 2 and 19U teams and also in the QPL teams. Off the court we received a government grant for coaching accreditation and new equipment in the sum of $6000. From this money we organised a Foundation Coaching course for our beginner coaches. This was facilitated by Tracey Jeanes-Fraser and was well received by all. Also new equipment has been bought for our teams for next year. Post season we have run a junior development and an emerging players program. The junior development program provided a range of on and off court opportunities to assist young players to develop their fundamental skills. The emerging players program (13-17yrs) challenged the players on all levels of their netball ability. Players were coached to improve on existing skills, as well as master new skills to enhance their performance. Both programs were headed by Qld Fusion Coach Tracey Jeanes-Fraser. Thanks to our current and new coaches who assisted with this program and all the other volunteers who worked behind the scenes to make this program possible. 2017 has been another great year of netball and I look forward to seeing the many familiar faces once again next year. President's Report 2016

2016 was a successful year for St Joseph’s. We fielded 22 teams – 6 non-competitive and 16 competitive teams. We also had 11 net set go girls experience netball for the first time. We had most competitive teams reach finals and came away with a handful of premierships. As with any code of sport the A Grade premiership is the pinnacle final and this year Joeys were able to achieve this goal. The season would not have been successful without our experienced coaches and umpires who provide mentoring on a weekly basis to our aspiring next generation. These players, umpires and coaches are the future of St Joseph’s and it is extremely important that these members’ experiences are positive ones. In the umpiring sphere Vicki Higgins, Lesley Musch, Mel Berardo and Ian Thomas have dedicated many Saturdays assisting our umpires to achieve their goals. In 2016, Di Davies achieved her National ‘B’ Badge and other young aspiring umpires received several association badges. Furthermore, our coaching future looks bright with Tracey Jeanes-Fraser (A Grade + U9 Div 1 coach) appointed as the 2016 coach for the 17U Qld Underage Team and furthermore has been appointed the Qld Fusion Coach for 2017. These experiences allow her to pass on her knowledge to our aspiring coaches. In respect to representative netball, 2016 witnessed many St Joseph’s players being selected in Western Districts State Age, Challenge or Country teams. We have players selected in the region’s Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams and also in the Mt Franklin teams. At a schoolgirls level we also had players represent their district or region. This year three St Joseph’s players were selected in Queensland teams. Congratulations to Mia Henderson and Annabella Sorby (19U State Netball Team), Romy Battensby (17U State Netball Team)). St Joseph’s Netball Club has been around since the 1970s and has always managed to maintain a strong presence at Western Districts and after many years of being President at St Joseph’s I am finally hanging up my boots. As my time as President draws to a close I am able to reflect on the many changes to the sport and the Association over the years – many are positive. I’d like to thank the Wests current committee and previous committees for their dedication to the sport and for providing robust discussions where Clubs are able to voice their opinion – unfortunately they don’t always goes in favour of St Joseph’s. I would like to acknowledge that St Joseph’s success over the years has been achieved through dedicated and passionate committee members. These committee members may have changed however their end goal has always remained the same. “To provide young women and members the opportunity to belong, enjoy, develop and excel.” 2016 is almost over and I am looking forward to watching on the sidelines as the new regime for St Joseph’s takes over in 2017.
